Mid-Week Musings

April 3, 2024

Suggested Reading: Luke 24:13-35

Dear NBRC Family & Friends,

Later the same day angels announced Jesus had risen, Cleopas and an unidentified traveling companion were walking to Emmaus, the village where they presumably lived. It was located roughly seven miles from Jerusalem.

As they walked, the two travelers talked about the recent events in Jerusalem. As they traveled together, they processed their confusion, disappointment, and grief. Their hopes and dreams were shattered. Their hearts were filled with disappointment and despair. The one they hoped would liberate Israel from subjection to Roman captors had been sentenced to death and crucified. Some women visited the tomb in which his body had been placed, but didn’t find his body. A vision of angels told the women that Jesus was alive.

As the two traveled and talked, the risen Jesus joined them. In the midst of their sorrow and pain, hurt and confusion, disappointment and lack of perfect faith, Jesus was with them.

Jesus joins us on our journeys through life as well. How comforting and reassuring it can be for believers to know that Jesus is with us, even if we lack perfect faith. Whatever we face in life, He is with us. When life is at its best and when it’s at its worst, Jesus is present. He is risen and He is with us. Hallelujah!

Pastor Ron
