Mid-Week Musings

May 1, 2024

Suggested Reading: 2 Samuel 22:29-31

Dear NBRC Family & Friends,

The National Day of Prayer (NDP) is an annual observance designated by the United States Congress. From the NDP website,

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible. (nationaldayofprayer.org)

The National Day of Prayer this year is Thursday, May 2. The theme this year is: LIFT UP THE WORD – LIGHT UP THE WORLD. The theme Scripture passage this year is 2 Samuel 22:29-31.

The NDP website suggests praying for America by praying into “seven centers of influence in our nation.” They are: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church, Family. By visiting the NDP website at nationaldayofprayer.org, you can find suggested ways to pray for these centers of influence.

The suggested Scripture reading from 2 Samuel includes words David spoke to the Lord when the Lord delivered him from his enemies and from the hand of Saul. David acknowledged the Lord as a source of illumination in the midst of darkness, a source of strength, and as One Whose “way is perfect” and Who is a source of protection.

Let’s pray that leaders within the centers of influence mentioned above, and that all people, look to the Lord for the light needed to guide us during times of darkness in our lives, and that we trust Him to help us “see” clearly in times of confusion and difficulty. May He help us realize that only He can lead us out of the darkness of sin and into the truth and life only He can give. May we look to Him for the strength needed to face whatever comes our way. May we trust and follow His Word and believe that His way is perfect. Because God’s way is perfect, we can depend on Him! He is always in control and nothing will happen to us that He does not allow.

Pastor Ron

Prayer suggestion: As you pray, please pray for our nation and for its leaders and families.
