Mid-Week Musings

October 2, 2024

Suggested Reading: John 17

Dear NBRC Family & Friends,

Fall officially arrived on September 22 this year, and, in ways, it’s hard to believe we have already entered into the month of October! Leaves are changing from green to red, orange, and yellow. The hours of daylight are getting shorter. People are trading time at the beach to time in apple orchards. No doubt about it, fall has arrived!

On the first Sunday of October, which this year is October 6, several denominations and Christian churches celebrate what is known as World Communion Sunday, originally called World Wide Communion Sunday. It’s an opportunity to promote and underscore Christian unity and the oneness in Christ that believers around the world share.

During a time when there’s so much that divides and separates people, it’s good to be reminded of the unity believers share in Jesus. Even though there are plenty of things about which Christians disagree, even when it comes to matters of the Christian faith, we can yet rejoice that, as believers, we are one in Christ. Even in the midst of our disagreements, as Christians, let’s “fix our eyes on Jesus,” the One with Whom we are united and the One through Whom we are united with one another.

Pastor Ron

(Next Sunday morning, October 6, the Rev. Lou Lotz will be the guest worship leader and preacher. The Scripture lesson will be from John 18:33-40. The sermon title is Barabbas. The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be administered.)
