Dear NBRC Family & Friends,
I recently listened to a sermon in which it was said, “Would-be followers of Jesus must be willing to sacrifice comfort and security if need be.” As Christians, we know that’s true. But if you’re the one being called “to sacrifice comfort and security,” those words take on a deeper meaning.
Considering my call to Wellsburg, I’ve been thinking about those words a lot lately. I’ve been pondering my own willingness to sacrifice. Along with those words, I’ve had running through my mind lyrics from hymns such as “I Surrender All,” “Trust and Obey,” and “I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go.”
Whether I accept or decline the call, how much am I willing to give up for Jesus? Am I surrendering all to Him to do with as He pleases, or are there areas in my life where I claim control? Do I trust Jesus enough to obey whatever He says? Do I trust Him enough to go wherever He leads me?
A willingness to sacrifice for Jesus doesn’t only apply to ministers, missionaries, and Christians who face fierce persecution. A willingness to sacrifice for Him applies to all would-be and actual followers of Jesus.
As you pray, ask Jesus to help you be willing to go where He wants you to go, to do what He wants you to do, and to be what He wants you to be.

(Next Sunday morning, November 3, the sermon title will be Misplaced Trust. The Scripture lesson will be from Psalm 146:1-4. Hope to be with you Sunday, in person or online!)
