Suggested Reading: Proverbs 3:6-7
Dear NBRC Family & Friends,
I recently shared the above Scripture passages with folks during hospital visits. As I did and then reflected on them later, one word in particular struck me. No, it wasn’t the word “trust,” “heart,” or “insight.” It wasn’t even the name “LORD.” Even though these words are important and noteworthy, as are all the other words in the passage, the word that struck me was the little word “all.” It’s a small word that in the passage brings a big challenge.
The word “all” appears in both verses of the suggested reading. It first appears when the writer says “Trust in the LORD with all your heart. . .” In other words, believe and rely on God completely and totally. Do I trust God like that? Where in my life might I not be trusting God completely? Where in my life might I be demonstrating disbelief in God or in His promises? Even though I cannot trust God perfectly, am I trusting Him completely?
The second time the word “all” appears is when the writer says “In all your ways acknowledge him. . .” How mindful of God am I in all areas of my life? Do I consider Him in every part of my life, or are there areas where I’m leaving Him out? Do I always seek to serve and obey Him? How committed am I submitting to His Word and to His Spirit?
“All” in these verses implies full surrender, everything, without leaving anything out. How much of myself might I be keeping from Him? How much of yourself might you be keeping from Him?
Prayer suggestion: As you pray, ask God to help you trust Him with all your heart and to acknowledge Him in all your ways.
